“These rules were designed to play the largest of games in 3 – 4 hours using scales between 2mm and 20mm, on a typical club night. We wanted to be able to play a game have a good historical result, a lot of fun and then be able to leave later on that evening knowing who has won and who has lost that particular battle. They are quicker and easy to learn and fun to use. We have played some of the largest battles using these rule sets and have been very happy with the results; we have played Gettysburg, Cedar Mountain, Chickamauga and Shiloh in the ACW period. Waterloo, Borodino, Leipzig, Hannau, Ligny and Roscomme in the Napoleonic period and many more. These rules have been play tested in several clubs and a couple of countries as well, we now feel we have achieved what we think is a balanced game and fun game, with a lot of emphasis on the fun. The test players as gamers especially like the moment of madness on a roll of double one for the Commanders and the moment of inspiration on a roll of double six when rolling for the initiative and orders phase. Pips are used for command orders simply it was easier to keep track of pips than Aide de Camps running around the battle field. Once you know the main mechanics of one set rules you will find that you can pick up the other set, or supplement if you so wish, and play very quickly without having to learn a whole book of new rules, just a few minor changes to fit the period. Happy gaming and we hope that you enjoy them as much as we have!” |
